Dent

Got my Nieuport yesterday, nicely packaged from HZ.

Question, as you have several, seems like it is a closed system and I was going to put some lubrication on the gears after reading some of the review posts on this series of planes. I am curious as to how one gets at the interior to do so. I am also curious as to your experience with the gears/motor and their longevity.

Nice great looking plane by the way - it's box makes for a nice hanger. I was totally surprised on how thin and light everything is.

Biggest surprise was my wife's reaction - made her smile when she saw it - I told her I spend too much time on the computer (true story) and need to have a hobby for distraction.

The gear's aren't that bad... I did strip mine accidently...I will have to take a look at it again this weekend...I had it apart and changed the gear.... guess what.. I put the wrong gear in...Now at low speeds there is too much backlash and the prop doesn't bite well.... I've had all 3 apart, so I can't remember how that one come's apart... You may be able to reach in and lube the gear's also...I can't remember...Let me take a look this weekend. I'll also post the glue I use...I also use clear scotch tape to hold the fuselage together....I'll post pic's this weekend.. Don't let me forget....I got a bad memory...It's true Mrs Dent tell's me so....

Edit: You can buy the gear kit's and motor, actually all parts...they are fairly cheap...

Ok iQQi, I finally took some picture's. I had my Nieuport apart awhile ago to change the gear's..Problem is I have to change the gear's again...I put the wrong one's in. The gear box gear is the wrong ratio for the motor gear..It's just alot of slop for me...
I'm posting some pics. You should be able to lube the gear's up throught the nose (I've posted pics of the gear's).The nose ring is glued on, You can pull it off very slowly.. I broke some of mine but you really can't tell. It glue's back together nicely.. I also used a razor blade to cut the decal to pull the body apart. Pull slowly, it will come apart.... Use a hobby knife or razor blade to assist if need be....
I also posted a pic of the glue's I like....use it spareingly... I use a tooth pick and use a little bit (in case it needs to come apart again). If your in a real hurry use scotch tape.
I would lube the gear's up through the nose and forget about pulling the plane apart until it's necessary. I also tried my best to take a pic of the servo's in the front of the plane also. That pic is with the side of the plane split.... Hope this helps...Lube the gear's through the nose for now.
Look up parts for the Flyzone Micro Nieuport online...they are all there and cheap too..If and when you need them...

Edit: I have 4 more picture's I'm trying to post, Hold on....

I can't get the last 4 pics to post....I gotta go Ice skating with Little Dent...I'll be back..

Gottem...Done....The Hold the Foam glue you can buy at a craft store. The UHU glue I'm having a hard time finding anymore....Hold the foam is good glue. I've used it on my bigger model's.

Dent:

Thanks big time for your time, effort and help! Appreciated!
Your photos and glue tip really help.

I'm going to try a dab of RoyalPurple gear lube on the gears before I try it. (I got it for my scooter) - I assume that there is only one set of reduction gears from the photos.

From my brief experience with the plane I think you might be good material for a surgeon!

Thanks again!

Dent:

I've ordered the Freewing Flight Design (Foam EPO) for a larger plane that can handle some wind and hold a small key chain camera. Saw some new reviews and videos on it and I'm really attracted to it. Slow stable flyer yet does reasonable aerobatics, and looks good too. Ready for flaps too, just need extra servo. ARF for around $125 shipped plus I got a FlySky TX & RX.

Waiting for some better weather to fly the Nieuport.

Fun...

I like that plane iQQi.
Ktheo. I started out on glider's also....Sophisticated lady, was my very first glider (RC plane).
The good thing about going from glider's to Plane's was, With glider's you have one chance to land and get it right, A plane can have many chances at landing.... :) take a look at some of the powered glider's. I have one that I fly quite a bit. Going from a Glider to a powered plane should be no problem.. It was easy for me...

One of the planes I almost got was the AXN Floater Jet (HobbyKing) - glider like, made out of EPO foam that can fly slow yet also really move out. Somewhat indestructible too. Here is a video on it - there are tons of videos on YouTube for it also a several year thread on RCGroups forum. The cost is reasonable too - $62 US for a PNP (you need battery, TX and RX)

Cannot really give you an assessment of that - Dents got real time experience with them. I am just coming back into the hobby after a 40 year hiatus so spending too much time reading and looking at all the goodies out there.

It is staggering how quickly the $ add up for the miscellaneous stuff too!

:) Yea I read all that...I shoved a boroscope in the PTU. The oil's Pretty black. There's no cooling for the PTU, That would answer that, cooked oil (75w-140). From what I can tell from the boroscope the gear's and clutche's are fine. I'm lucky no outer leak's... Breather's not plugged. As far as pulling the PTU. Not me. I'd need a lift. It's buried. a cross member run's underneath and it's welded to the frame...It's packed in pretty tight....bolted right to the transmission.
oop's Back on topic.....

Ok all you clever people,

I have flown once with dual controls and was reasonable ok but I wouldn't say a natural.
So, if I want to try it as a complete novice with little money would this be any good?

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/R-C-Airplane-Remote-C...oplane-/260683048845

Roughly converts to $54.79 (American)

Hope this doesn't seem too much of a stupid question.

I wouldn't get that one Richyroo. The 2 channel's part bothers me...2 channels to me mean's full power all the time with rudder and elevator and wait for the battery to go dead. Or elevator for up and down and engine differential for steering. I'd go with something with at least 3 channel's, elevator, rudder and throttle control. I don't have time to look right now. I'm still at work changing a refuel valve on a plane. I'll take a look later. There are many different plane's out there. ;)

There are no stupid question's... :)
