:( NLR sc...being a computer player that turns faster than droid and apple players, continually dropping, and camping isnt representing our squad very well. I understand that people want to play the way they want, but your tag represents ALL of us when playing with the masses. I can take a beating trust me. But being in a game with other squad members, and future members, fighting like that brings the NLR name down to the level of mediocre squads. WE are not mediocre. WE have higher standards. WE hold ourselves above others, and can ONLY do so by our actions.

Dropping every game I played you tonight and NEVER holding... no not our strategy. And you did along with outnumbering....no not our strategy. Pick n choose how to properly attribute those strategies is how we roll. If I need to explain in more depth let me know, I will, but feel the need to not have to. We may have to reiterate some basic NLR fighting tactics and how and when to deploy them. Right here on the forum for ALL NLR members to see, and ALL other DF players to see.

Yes ma'am! The NLR stresses on proper play and use of tactics! ;)
We liberate from our negative will to nothingness, and once having said yes to the instant, the affirmation is contagious. It bursts into a chain that knows no limit. To say yes to one instant is to say yes to all of existence.

Hey folks,

My position for dropping is to do it with a strategic purpose.

This would mean that dropping is for:
- desperate measures when facing many reds, especially incoming bombers.
- to cover for other team mates who are on bombing runs.
- to mislead reds so other team mates can bomb.
- to drive back a particularly concerted attack by reds.
- to counter red droppers.
- to go after sneaks.
- to turnfight a particularly dangerous red once you have passed each other.
- occasionally just to break things up.

I don't feel that it is justified to drop on every run just for the sake of badgering the reds. There are a few pilots who have a reputation as chronic droppers; when they enter a game you know that they will not be carrying. I like to hunt them down and do what I can to neutralize their threat or drive them out of the game. I hope that none of the NLR are seen as chronic droppers. Even an occasional spree can be excused but it is not the kind of thing that I would like the NLR to be known for.

Basically, have fun and try to win but don't trash on other players.

So what happened was me and 420 were in two games together. The First we were very outnumbered they had a dropper and 420 was sneaking. I was dropping to keep up. I left to up my sensitivity. I didnt get back into that game, but then next one I got in with 420 was a different one and the dropper in the last game was on my team 420 on the other. My sensitivity level was up so i dropped too. 420 was outnumbered for the first few minuets but not long after the other dropper left and the sides evened out. I still was dropping(sorry but in a bomb the carrier game its easy to win with a tank). 420 started to get mad and lecture. then left.

I don't always drop. I like to change it up based on the game and my mood.

Anyways thats my side of it.

Like I said, I am out of NLR. I like all of you and have no hard feelings. I will play the way I play.

Hi CS,

Me too feel Sorry to loose you CS. But if you have decided, I respect your decision. But you are always welcome to come back.

Wish you all the best and happy flying. (No hard feelings)

I drop only when: (from Mcfate list)
- to counter red droppers.
- to go after sneaks.
- to turnfight a particularly dangerous red once you have passed each other and he drops.

But still take head on even after dropping if other red(s) don't drop.

Vivek

I greatly appreciate 420’s appeal to maintain a highly reputable squad. I have watched in earnest the goings-on in the forum and in-game for nearly a year. I picked the NLRs because I found the squad to be the most elite in reputation, manner, and play. I enjoy high content forum post, which are void of any drama – or at the very least – attempt to squelch the drama. The recent posts are a prime example of what I mean. We lost a member, but we did so honorably – with no bridges burnt – and open invitations to carry on.

With that said, I do think the situation with CS can be discussed better. For example, “Meta-gaming,” which seems to be our mantra, by principle, suggests that CS is in the right to play as he sees best fit, doesn’t it? Had he pushed the matter, I feel I may have sided with him. However, there seems to be a fine line between “meta-gaming” and anarchy, the latter of which is not something I signed up for. I think I wrestle with the two ideas often enough.

Is this a conversation worth having, or am I beating a dead horse too soon?

Hey Finn!

I think the "fine line" is mostly in the perception rather than the intention. My reasons for dropping are obviously very liberally applied and I'm sure there are some in dogfight who consider me a chronic dropper. While I don't think of myself that way, I understand why some might believe it to be true... until I take out a bunch of their hangars anyway. LOL!

Taking CS' report at face value I understand where he was coming from. I also understand how 420 came to the conclusion that she did. Perhaps squad chat or PM s might have been a better venue for the discussion? I have heard and read about PC players using different settings for different play styles. I never thought about how it might set your style for an entire series of games. Hmmm.

It can be hard to keep tempers down when frustration is fed by misunderstandings. Don't forget that it's a game. Fun is hereby mandated! :P If someone is doing something that pisses you off, either leave or do something about it. Accusations rarely solve anything whether it's because of a misunderstanding or because someone is being an asshat. If it's someone in the squad, please give them the benefit of the doubt and talk it out. We're squad mates for a reason, right?

Hey there, NLR! I'm just stopping by to acknowledge your efforts and victories. Thank you all for continuing to be a shining paragon of Dogfight pilots!

I hope you're all doing well this holiday season, as well. I've been pretty busy with affairs of my own, too, but I will still try my best to keep in touch!

Hi Finn,

If things were so black-and-white, then there wouldn't be any argument. This topic is something that can never be exhausted, no matter how many threads and rants are posted upon it. People will always have something to say, whether it be productive or downright idiotic.

I posted that Meta-Gaming thread, I suppose, to find a middle ground of the conflict. The purpose was to justify the reasoning of conflicting playstyles, and to urge moderation in said tactics in question. As many of you know, the NLR keeps these ideals firm in its very foundation. But what, exactly, is expected of the members of the NLR?

Of course, we want pilots that are skilled and deadly in the skies, but that's too easy when compared to what we are really looking for. No, we want pilots that uphold a certain "gold standard". The tricky thing is, some of these standards aren't written down anywhere in black-and-white. NLR pilots are expected to keep a level head while finding that unknown middle ground; a balance between domination and fairness, competition and sportsmanship, aggressiveness and passiveness. This is expected both in game and in forum.

Let me tell you, all of you have been upholding these standards beautifully. I wouldn't allow you here if you weren't. The NLR isn't about numbers or high activity. In the end, it isn't even about skill. It's about people who can prove that they can hold themselves to a higher standard than the rest.

Keep up the good work, NLR!

-Luna

Thanks McFate and Luna for your responses. I thought a good chance had come our way to talk about our philosophies as a squad. And as I mentioned, I thought it could be discussed better.

Although I do have my faults and biases, I rarely see any issue as black and white. In fact, it is my job to teach others how to stop thinking in binaries. However, complex issues deserve complex discussions.

I'm so glad I asked. Thanks again.

I haven't had as much time to play this month as I would have liked. Its beed nice to see NLRs in the air most every time I go up though :)

Just leveled up to 24 this afternoon despite the INCREDIBLE amount of lag in the games.

Congrats, D!

The lag is bad. I agree. I hope this isn't what that Zuperman fellow is hoping we will pay extra for - new servers and all. Just temporary, I hope.

I'm curious about the status of other NLRs now that wait-to-play vs. pay-to-play update is going around. Is this new format going to affect any NLRs DF habits? Any predictions on how it will change the game? Concerns? Is anyone not planning on spending the $2?

Will the pay option be mandatory for squad members?

This new game dynamic is going to take some time to settle out.

I'm sure it is going to have an effect on many players. What that effect will be....?
First off, my Kindle Fire HD still has d8s, so it is impossible to predict when the new update will come through. I have been playing less lately as it is. I had really been getting ready for squad wars and having it withdrawn from imminent status again really curbed some of my enthusiasm. Oh well. I'm not leaving but I don't fly as much as I did a few months ago.

Feel free to take your time and see how things go for you. I have no intention to kick any inactive members until/unless our roster is full and more are asking to join.

BTW: I added a new poll to the NLR website.
