When I was in highschool I flew model airplanes quite a bit. I was proud to say that I was the least nerdy one there.. ;) lol

Anyway, one winter I was bored so I built a Taube, covered it in fabric and dope. Lot of work. It was a beautiful plane in the end, not super accurate or anything, not quite 1/4th scale, but it looked great in the sky. It was a disappointment beyond that though- as the dope dried it put a small twist in the wing that nothing would correct. You can probably guess what that causes. I forget if I sold it or if it crashed.

lol

I didn't do much with projectiles. I produce a few bomb-delivery systems. Part of the problem was that the doors should open right below where virtually all planes keep their servos, battery, receiver and fuel- roughly the center of gravity. I think my best (but least realistic) was a tube with a servo mounted in such a way that "on" would open the cap and allow whatever the tube was loaded with to fall through. The front was covered, and I forget how I worked it exactly, but it allowed enough air through to blow through it when open, which blew out whatever bomb I had. When the club would have events with a large number of children present I'd put this larger box design on (they just attached with velco and the servo had external spot to plug it in (basically like a lot of guys use for external charging, so you're not messing around with the internal wiring). That was more of bay-door system which I'd load with candy or those little plastic guys they sell with parachutes.

One of the guys really wanted a bomb that would drop and make a whistle-sound like you hear in the movies. Man, that was A LOT of trouble. Things that were safe to drop didn't generally have enough mass to fall fast enough to get a good whistle going.

I would like to build a 1/4th scale Albatross Diii, really go to town with it. Maybe I'll buy one and build it this winter. Something to do in my new smoking room (had to build a room in my basement so I could smoke cigars in winter!)
