Yeah the conclusion that Jacob and I arrived was that AT&T seems to be randomly blocking connections and that's why tons of people get connection lost errors. Unfortunately I'm no in the US so I can't do much to call AT&T as a customer and issue a lawsuit (because it's illegal to do what they are doing).

The workaround is to not use AT&T. So either switch providers or use a VPN app. A VPN is a Virtual Private Network, that it does is to send all your data through a different server so that AT&T can't get involved in the process. The disadvantage of using a VPN is that it's annoying and also it may delay your connection speed since it's jumping through different servers. So my advice is to skip AT&T if you can.
