I am considering installing Windows 8 just to play Dogfight on a bigger screen.
Is anyone already playing it on W8?
If yes, give me us your feedback!
I want to know also what kind of joystick I need to buy (is there any joystick that can handle the throttle controling?)
Thanks in advance!

I just got VMware for linux -- just so I can run Windows 8 and try it out, hahahah! Once I get a chance to set it all up (and see if it runs proper) -- I'll be sure to PM you.

I just opened room right now on my HD for a new Windows 8 partition.
Geez, I didn't want to say that but... I bought Windows 8 mostly to see if I can make more than 7.500 points per hour on a bigger screen... Tired of being shot by not seen red planes...

When I tried to play this game pluged on my led TV via hdmi, I faced two problems:
a) the image is simply upscaled by the TV's interpolation algorythm; so, there is NO higher resolution screen, so no benefit at all;
b) TERRIBLE LAG - looks like the 2 meters cable is too long for a quick response.
So, I quit using hdmi on the phone.

And I fear the lag can be nastily noticeable if you play it under Windows 8 on a virutal machine; that's why I go for a new, fresh, "physical" installation, Slender.
This morning I will finish the Windows 8 instalation, buy the appropriate version of the game, and try using my only current joystick (a PS2 model); if I find no lag, I will buy a more suitable joystick for it.

This afternoon I will register my first impressions. See you!

Well, I already installed Windows 8, configured my Micro$oft account, logged in, etc. etc. etc. etc.
When I clicked on the "Wiew in Windows Store" button (on the main page ), the green Store app screen opens up, but there is NO PAGE for Dogfight.
And if I hit "search" under the Windows Store, looking for Dogfight, I receive only 4 results:
- "Intinity Danger",
- "Damaged Goods",
- "Island Wars 2" (WildTangent) and
- "Island Wars 2" (Christmas Edition).

Where the hell is the Dogfight for Windows page?
(Note: I am running Windows 8 in Portuguese; perhaps there is some localization issue that I must get over to be able to buy apps in English, but it is only a guessing - anyone does have the answer?)

My first (and sad) feedback:

I bought Windows 8 yesterday (I would not do it this year, if not for DF);
I installed Windows 8 this morning;
Opened Store;
Searched for Dogfight;
No results!
Contacted Microsoft via chat.
The agent told me to change Location settings (changing it to USA).
After changing it, the app appeared on the Store! Yabadabadoo, I yelled...
But when I tried to buy it, I needed to reenter the credit card number and all details, and the system asked for a valid USA address and phone number...
I told that to the agent.
Then he asked me to wait a moment, to talk with his support team.

After 2 long hours chating (and I have all the conversation saved in a text file, if needed), the last words were these ones:

(...)
Michael D: Thank you for waiting Pedrinho. After raising our concern with our support team, they response "Yes, is likely that the issue has something to do with the availability of the application in the country"
Pedrinho: So, no fixes?
Pedrinho: I have this very app running on my Android Phone, bought via Android Market with that same credit card...
Michael D: At this time, it will be important to contact the developer instead to send them a feedback regarding the matter. I truly wanted you to have the game; however, I am limited by the restriction that the system has.
Pedrinho: OK, thank you for your time.
Michael D: You are most welcome Pedrinho.

So, please, Zup, what next? Are we, non USA citizens, left without the Windows 8 version of DF????
Believe me: I bought Windows 8 and installed it today, just to be able to play DF on a big screen! Yeah it can sound absurd, but I antecipated my idea of buying Windows 8 for this reason, cuz otherwise I wouldn't buy it this year, I am quite happy with Linux Mint and Windows 7.
If you don't have plans of making DF abailable for other countries, please warn users of this issue on the main page!!!

erm... not me. I mean, first news. I made it available worldwide, it should be available any where in the world.

Where are you from so I can contact the dev center and ask what's going on?

I know some countries take longer to get published because of laws (for instance, south korea requires specific filling and paperwork), but if it is available on android/iphone on your country, it should be for win8 by default.

I am from Brasil, Zup.

Edit: if the Windows Store payment method doesn't work, is there any chance of paying you by another method, for you to send me the files by e-mail or dropbox? Or this instalation method won't work on Windows 8?

Thanks for your reply.

Ok, So Brasil has special rules. By law all games need to get a certificate from here:
portal.in.gov.br/
(not fun process).

I've already contacted Microsoft, hopefully tomorrow it goes through since I have a partnership with them and it should be pretty speedy.

What that means is... you should set your store back to your country, not to US. So change it to Brasil and tomorrow Dogfight should be available on your windows 8 store.

I'm checking the pic here www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www....=0CD8Q9QEwAg&dur=882

If it is that one, try pressing the "mode" button. Joysticks need to be set to digital/analog depending on each gamepad. Probably that's the issue why it is not working.
After that, just push up and engine and all should work.

So I have a wireless version of what you have shown but still doesn't work with the mode light on or off:

I also have a Microsoft sidewinder pad and that doesn't work either. When I look at them in devices and printers they are ok and respond as they should.

@Pedrinho, the game should be available now in the brasilian store :)

@SnidleyWhiplash that's very odd. Do you use a standard pc or is this a tablet?

Ummm well I don't know how to answer...I will pick standard pc since I'm an IT guy and the machine is more of an engineering server that has been adapted into my game machine :) That being said I haven't found anything where it has compatibility issues or anything...

I'm trying to figure out what's special about your machine because it works everywhere I test it :? I'm also looking to find your exact gamepads (although nowdays it's a standard so if they work with mine, it should work for all...)

To Zuperman:
Thanks, man! I finally managed to buy the game some minutes ago. But it kept saying "downloading". and never finished doing it. So, I remembered the Microsoft tecnician telling me (thru online chat) about changing the region settings; so, I changed my region settings to USA, and instantly the app installed. After installed, I simply changed back my region settings to normal (Brasil), and the game still worked. I believe this can be announced to all non-USA players, to avoid having a lot of complains, Joaquin. ;-)

For the feddback about the W8 version of the game: as I said, I just installed the game some minutes ago, played some practice missions to see how it looks. I don't have a joystick to test it yet, so I am limited to play using the (argh!) notebook's keyboard, what is a pain, and that's why I didn't dare to play it online. This week I will look for a joystick to do some tests, and I will post my impressions here.

Lets see if my Death/Kill ratio decreases a bit with a joystick... lol

Edit: Just one more question: can one use the joystick to make all ingame commands, like throttle up/down, bomb, brake, camera view, etc? Sorry my ignorance, I am not used to joysticks at all...

I took the RED PILL!
