I hope he wasn't too mad. It seemed the entire game he was a bit ticked off because he couldn't get any kills/he kept getting shot down (he said it was because of lag).
When the zep gets close to the enemy base, the enemies have an advantage:
-Since the zep is close to the base, they can start attacking right when they take off. Corollary, the offensive team would have to fly across the map to get back in the battle, which makes plenty of time for them to attack the zep in their absence.
I'm not one for spawnkilling, unless it is necessary. And in this case, as I hope you can see, it is necessary. Nevertheless, I still try to keep it under moderation. I only killed one plane on the runway on that game.
