My dad's unit is being deployed tommorow. It's going to be his fourth deployment, but his first with his new unit. The unit he's in is called NSW (Naval Special Warfare) Group Three, but is more commonly known as SEAL Team Three.

I'm sure all of you know what kind of things the SEAL Teams do, which is why I'm nervous about this deployment. More so because it's so classified; I'm not allowed to know where he is actually going, or what he is actually doing. But he's always promised to come back, and he's yet to break that promise.

So, I wish my dad luck, and a speedy and safe return.

How about you guys? Do you have any experiences with the military? I'd love to hear your stories, too!

Ah, so I take it that's why you're in San Diego? Because of the base on Cornado Island?

I've been there a few times. Pretty cool encampment. That Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training is pretty crazy.

Your father is in all of our best wishes.

Personally, my family comes from a very long line of sailors. Even back to the days of the grand Spanish Armada. In my family, you're either in your current country's Navy (Everything from the Royal Navy to the German Kaiserlichen Marine) or you're in the medical field. Or both.

Thanks for your support, guys.

Yep, Coronado is where it's at.

My family has always been either military, or medical as well. My father's basic job is a medic. He started out working as a Navy Corpsman (A fancy title for medic) working with the Marines. Two tours in Iraq, one in Afghanistan. And he's seen things that no man should ever see. Sometimes, he tells me stories of what happens Over There, and they're enough to give me nightmares.

The sacrifices that the members of the military make are always underlooked, which is one of the many reasons why I'm going to follow my family's footsteps and join the military as well once I get older.

My dad's side featured pirates in Jean Lafitte's crew and a few criminals in Vidor.
My mom's side had Texas Rangers, a defender of the Alamo, a WWII Soldier, Scottish Highlanders, and an airforce pilot or two.

And some where in there's supposedly Danish Royalty....

Lol, and please, no pastry jokes......

No way, you're an ex-Ranger? That's totally cool! My dad has a few buddies from the 75th; real awesome guys.

You also know a SEAL from Six? Team Six is probably the most exclusive of all the teams. You have to be the BEST to be in Six. The things those guys do are unbelievable.

May I ask what you did in the military? As I said, my dad is a medic, which I think is probably the most heroic job in the world. We have this awesome painting in our living room that signifies what medics do:

My MOS was 18B Which was Special Forces Wepons SGT.I was a squad leader for my machine gun squad. The machine gun squad consists of a squad leader and three M240B machine gun crews of three men each. The machine gun squad is normally employed as a single element to provide quick, accurate, long-range supporting fire. One or more crews may be attached to other squads within the platoon.I did two tours in Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and my last tour was in Somalia in 1993.Men who serve in combat share a special bond that you cant explain the Ranger motto is "Sua Sponte" (Of Their Own Accord)and of Corse Rangers LEAD THE WAY.But the SEAL TEAMS are a very special breed of men truly MEN OF HONOR my friend and I have shared many horror stories over the years and a few jokes ARMY vs. NAVY but we all know we are brothers in arms and everyone comes home.

That's very amazing. Were you in the Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia in 1993? I know it was a coalition between Delta and Rangers.

If anyone is wondering what I'm talking about, have you ever seen/read Black Hawk Down?
