It's the wired version...can't get it to fly up or down...the throttle works and the bombs will drop but it won't go up or down. I calibrated the controller. The odd thing is, when I go to 'controls' there's no option for a controller, just a 'touch the screen' setting and the regular one. I chose the left side one and the only way to go up and down is to touch the screen. Odd...

It should work automatically. With the left toggle stick used for flying. I don't use one but I tested a friends. I don't have a touch screen though so could that be effecting it?

my are are you using xbox360 controller ?
what brand is it and if you shake it does it make a rattling noise ?
My brother uses a xbox360 controller on the game and he had this problem and its prolly a shorted out wire somewhere in the controller or it is a bad connection so It could be the usb end on the controller or it is the usb port on your laptop. Does the usb port hold the usb end tightly or loose ?

Thanks all...I forgot to mention in the beginning I'm using th MS Surface Pro 2. That's probably the issue as it is quite the odd duck.

I have a problem with Xbox controller not working as well, it's the 360 and brand spanknig new laptop. Only lets me use arrow keys and that's like, well, no smooth turns or climbing, diving, lining up sights on enemy planes is nigh on impossible, at least for me. So Zup if you read this, or anyone who can tell me what I'm doing wrong, please, please. Mostly I've been told it's just plug and play, laptop recognises the hardware, just doesn't work in game.

Well I can get everything working except the flying part! The throttle, guns, and bombs work. Haven't been able to see if any views work because without the ailerons and elevator working, it just crashes.

When you're using a controller on Win 8.1 desktop, do you see any other options for controllers besides the two that are default? On my tablet PC I see only two. It seems the controller cannot take away the flight controls from the accelerometer in the tablet.

I have the same problem, I did a little digging and I found out that most people can't have the xbox 360 controller hooked up to a windows 8 laptop. I am one of those people, I feel your pain but push through it, you wll get used to it. Sure its not the most reliable way to fly, but, its all we got. I assure you, it can be done with the arrow keys on the keyboard. Hang in there bud.

I bought a cheap 360 controller for pc on clearance from Best Buy and it came with a driver CD. Ran the CD and the thing works, it's just I don't use it because the controls for movement are on the wrong side for me. Now if I could just figure out how to change that around.....

I have to fly using the left toggle on my xbox and I throttle up and down with the right one A button fires X button drops a bomb and the Y button gives me 3rd person view. it is the 360 controller I cant use keys for crap so I have to use controller or wouldn't be able to fly at all. no advantage tho I think the tilt controls people use may actually help them but then I do good just to stay in the fight lol

I find it sad that so many people find it necessary to use something as Over Powered as an XBox controller... Tell me, what are you compemsating for?

Not compensating for anything.. But if you have never flown using a laptop then you wouldn't understand. The xbox 360 controller is just another way to play the game because not everyone has a tablet or smart phone. I have a phone but I don't fly using it because the screen is small. The xbox controller doesn't give you a advantage its the same as if you used a phone or a tablet and its not "over powered" or whatever you ment by that. Its kinda like the people that play on a 50 inch tv.. it doesn't make the planes any bigger it doesn't give you a advantage its just a bigger screen and thats what is convenient for that person.

sorry, didn't read all of the above stuff(not planning on it), but there is a software called 'xpadder' that lets u set up the controller's stuff for any key esc...., it has a lot of functions, and so far, it works by replacing the keys on the keyboard, so the uses are endless(i used it for minecraft and countless other pc games that didn't ahve 360 function to them), look it up, give it a try, if u don't want to pay for it, find a torrent, not that hard(only like 15 bucks i think)
