Learn to shoot them down before they get past you. Best advice I can give you. Anticipate the aircraft movement and watch what they do. Certain players tend to use the same moves to get past each time. Once you figure out where they will go you have the upper hand. Good luck!

Barrel rolls are predictable.

In other words, practice shooting incoming barrel rolling planes. Eventually you'll get good enough at it to make them think twice. It can be quite a challenge when they are barrel rolling and lag shows up.... but it is definitely a good skill to master.

are you certain it's vs PC players that you are having this occur? as a PC player we have no sensitivity control to adjust. i cannot turnfight vs tablets. if a tablet player gets behind me, it's game over. if your sensitivity is turned up you should be getting the upper hand every time, bombs or no.

i for one look at real air combat maneuvers.. it helps. but you can also move around until they pass you from a head-on fight, turn around, and shoot them in the back. or as others have suggested already you can just practice your head-on shooting. be sure to watch out for incoming fire!

Im not going to share how I get behind folks, but it isn't by looping or barrel rolls. In elite, however, I don't have the upper hand once I get past the red so I have been concentrating on shooting them before they have the chance to get behind me. Tablet folks get me every time after the pass in elite, I have no chance, thus the need for learning to shoot them first.

Viper, agree Elite is a new challenge. Best to fire on red first, but if they get behind you there are a few things I've found that work.

It will be interesting once Squad Wars begin.

Hey BHG,
(I'm glad to see you worked things out and are back on the forum.) B)

I'm not sure if you are asking about original DF or about Elite but they are now very different when it comes to turn fighting with bombs. In elite the planes are faster, bombs are lighter, bullet drop requires more skill for aiming... It is not as easy for head-on shooters.

Turn fighting with bombs seems to be the new norm. Using gravity and working the throttle can help you turn faster.

If they are bombless and behind you, drop and turn fight. You can always go back and reload. If you are playing a dropping turn fighter in a bombing mission, then someone on the team has to step up and drop to fly cover for their bombers. I am all for playing by the rules. I take the "prisoner dilemma" approach. I cooperate first then reciprocate. Good way to approach these games.

McFate, as I recall from our most recent game together (BTB), you and I got into a turn-fight. I know recently DF Elite got that update and it made for some really refreshing gameplay, especially in the previous Zeppelin game we played.

Anyways, in the BTB game I noticed it was easy for me to stay on a person's tail during a turn-fight, even with 1 bomb (I haven't invested in 2 bombs yet) on a medium-tier plane. What device were are you using? Also I assume you were carrying two bombs, as you ended the game with a double hangar strike :P

I know there's some level of disparity between devices and the agility level of the planes.

Luna,

I've been playing on an iPhone 6. I was flying a fully upgraded Siemens Schukertt with 2 bombs.
Yes! Very refreshing! The planes can move now! I'm still being accused of dropping while carrying but most other players seem to have similar capabilities now. I don't know if it's across the board yet. Are PCs on a more even footing in elite yet? IDK.

My style has always been to turn fight so I'm really liking it. Did you get the chance to see that there is less difference now between performance with or without bombs? I flew against another old school player who I managed to out turn 3 times as I made my way to his carrier. He asked "no bombs?" right as I dropped both on his con tower. I told him I was just working the throttle, he said he was too and that he was using an iPad. Hmmm.

When you are moving slower you can make a tighter turn. If you stay at full throttle while trying to turn fight you make nice round loops that are easy for the following reds to track. If you drop the throttle momentarily just as you begin a turn you can tighten the circumference of your turn.

Using gravity strategically can also tighten your turns. The added weight of a bomb can be used as an advantage for a few situations but once you're in a turn fight it won't take long for a dropper to gain the advantage.

Other than that... proper diet and exercise!

Excellent! Thanks! And by how much should I drop the throttle when I initiate the turn?

All the way? Half way?
