Hey Dogfight Addicts.

I want to talk connection speeds.

And lag.

Most of my multiplayer time is on an iphone 4s.
Wifi, strong signal.
20 mb download
5 Mb upload
No other device on my wifi.

When I play on my AT&T 4g, I get killed by the WIFI guys more. Period.

Having played many days of Call of Duty (a fast-paced shooter game,) online, I can really appreciate the importance of a few milliseconds. I want to really make sure some of you guys and gals understand what you may be missing out on.

You think the best players have the biggest screen? Think again. I don't need a big screen in a close chase. I need a device I can flip sideways in the blink of an eye. When I played on an ipad, I felt slow. And I need to have a fast connection.

I hope some of you tech-types will chime in, I'm no expert. Please help me understand if I understand understanding this.

If the server is the central brain distributing and recieving our data, then IS the following correct~?

I see two hits scored on an enemy aircraft: on the chat board, in green. My UPLOAD speed determines how fast the server will record these. My enemy's DOWNLOAD speed determines how quickly they know they've died. I may see them in flames before they know they've been shot at, right?

Well I'm beggining to see that some people are easy targets simply because of their network speeds. Duh, you say?

But I want to get deeper into this. Where are the servers located? Is there an effect based on where you are in the world? Baron Von Saltzburg and I play what seems from my end a lag free, zippy game against eachother, and I find this amazing considering there are people near me I know I can lag kill everytime.

From my perspective when YOU are lagging, if you are in a turn and you lag, your aircraft will suddenly continue on it's last known heading and climb rate, giving me an easy shot on your plane, while you think you'd been zigging and zagging your buns off.

Well, I'd love to hear from someone educated on the subject, and like I said, I hope some folks will decide to shake down their providers for better speeds if things haven't been adding up in your deaths.

I would like to point out that one thing Activision does to make lag even for CALL OF DUTY players, is that they group players in lobbies that have nearly the same delay in server communication. I hope this does NOT happen in DogfighT, because you'd simply stop seeing a lot of your favorite reds and blues out there who have different speeds. I think you also need a gigantic player population to get away with that.

See you up there! (I'll be down low. Where I can use my camo for my advantage, and your silhouette against you.)

:)

in battlefield 1942 you have to get this HUGE lead on the enemy aircraft making dogfighting more challenging. and it also differs where the server is.
Who ever dislikes you gets payback by something else.
My planes bullet proof.;)
