OK I am honestly not trying to pry the can of worms open further I am just trying to become more familiar with the DogFight Forum rules and policies. What is the criteria on which a thread can become locked? I would assume it would be foul language, crude and inappropriate remarks...but it's not to stop people from debating a topic in the game that they don't like is it? It appears to me that this is the reason for one thread being locked by a mod. This also feels like a conflict of interest in that someone is posting comments about a squad, and that squad doesn't like what is being said they get 'their' mod to censor it? Do we not have free speech here? Did I miss some offence that occurred? I know I am obviously biased since i have posted my opinion so can anyone explain?

This is an amazing community! For the most part because of the family environment not to many topics are locked. Disagreements happen and are usually settled or dropped before things get to out of hand. However it is a forum about a game so if a thread gets to hostile or is not accomplishing anything or gets to off topic it should be locked. Some posts should be done via PM if two individuals want to discuss beliefs. There are internet guidelines to address decorum on a forum. Using them would lock a lot more than currently are. Stating your opinions is fine just don't try and force them on another. Unless it is directly related to the game it should be kept light and social. We are not going to solve any of the worlds problems here.

So an active participant who happens to be a mod and biased to one side just decides it's appropriate to lock the thread????? hmmm

Perfect, I don't see the reason then at all to lock the everyone should know the truth thread. Even Parrothead said "Ya know what?... Disregard my last post. Y'all blast away. There's been no ugly name calling or abusive language (at least not on this thread). It's actually been a civilized "discussion". I can simply choose to not read it anymore.

BZ, it's your thread. You started it. Post what you want."

And that is 4 posts from the end...looks like it's still in the middle of the debate. If it didn't get locked when it ventured into the slavery discussion I have a hard time understanding why it's locked now. Also General Jackson makes points on his last post even directs it at us (I can only assume he means us) then locks it? Let's all be honest here, we are saying things they don't like to hear and they are trying to mute us. No other threads like this seem to get locked (I just looked)

I'm just commenting on this thread not that particular subject matter. Things will tend to slip by or go to long here because for the most part we all get along. Take a breather and look at forum as a whole. Sometimes we all go where we don't belong.

I've exchanged some messages with Snidley and GenJack. Here are the highlights, and Snid and Jack are on board:

- I was about to lock the Truth thread myself. It had disintegrated into a slog-fest between Bzerk and McNeil. I would have waited a little longer than GenJack did, mostly because I typically like the line to be crossed, trampled, and pulverized before sticking my neck out there. In this case, I was waiting for them to post some really obvious abuse.

- I don't think GenJack locked it before the line was crossed. The posts were getting personal, and that's enough. Like Kevy said, we're pretty lax around here compared with standard internet forum guidelines. GenJack saw it and capped it. I've got no problem with that. Ya'll feel free to disagree though.

- A more to-the-point moderation post might have sounded more like "This thread has disintegrated into personal jabs, mostly between just two people. It is locked. Please take the discussion to PM's if you want to make it personal. Or feel free to continue in another thread but keep the discussion civil." (Well, that's easy to think up after all the smoke has cleared.)

- But GenJack locked the thread and stated an opinion of the topic, which left him open to criticism for bias, and impacted his credibility as a 3rd party concerned about the forum's civility. Basically I totally agree with his action, but his communication had much more than was needed.

On a side note, I felt that Parrot's post was a little generous, correcting himself and saying that it had been civil. But Parrot is a generous guy. He paid me a lot to post this.

If you all feel compelled, someone can re-start a thread on the pros and cons, yin and yang, doe's and oats, of 2nd accounts, or whatever. Anything that CAC or any squad or individual has done is fair game. Freedom of speech and all that. Just keep it non-personal, no matter how much you think the other person is advocating idiocy. It's good practice for real-life, always being ready to say "ok I hear you, and I disagree" instead of saying "Jane you ignorant xxxx."

Thank you for being the voice of reason. Maybe to keep things clear Mods shouldn't lock threads in which they are directly related to or implicated in. Seems like a conflict of interest just like the 2 squad issue that started the whole discussion.

Lets set this strait, that may have been Bzerks thread. But the message was to me! Now i have been to busy to try and get that thread back on topic, for which the reasoning of it in the first place. Which was makeing a secret accounts behind your main squads back. This i have thought of myself, but i felt badly for thinking that. Its just one reason i left the Great Falcons.

But that thread was turned upside down by a few who think its all about slavery, and their heritage's. That was not what the thread was suposed to be about. They took it and ran and got it locked. That wasnt fair to others who have their own opinions on said topic.
Yes it was getting a little personal. Thats because they wanted to make it that way. After reading that thread, im glad it was locked. Still unfair, but necesary. The CAC turnd a great topic into a slavery and civilwar past thing. Lol why i ask? The thread had absolutely nothing to do with it. I guess cause they are southerners they can do it. I have had family on both sides. And im not saying nothing about it. Good lord this was supposed to be a discussion not a free for all slug fest. People just need to get a damn clue.

I don't think the CAC turned the thread into a slavery and civil war thing.

I believe, if you re-read the thread, that the Confederate/racism/slavery/Civil war tangents in the thread only started in reaction to a non-CAC member post. This led to reactions from some of our members and others not in the squad.

I'm sorry Grey, that you feel so affronted by this whole episode. I apologize to you for the part I played. I take full responsibility.

Someone has started a new thread on the second accounts just now--the "great subject" can now be discussed without distraction.

Thank you, but i myself should apologize for this whole debogel. This whole subject got way out of hand on both sides. We all should have taken a breather and used cooler heads and the right form of words to express what we wanted to say. I myself was worried that this new squad was some part of a underhanded way to infiltrate other squads and spy on them for your squad. Thats why the Misfits halted recruitment until we can squash this whole situation.
Hopefuly you guys and understand were im coming from. Espionage also came to mind on breaking up other squads from the inside, so that one would remain strong at the end of it all. I mean no disrespect, but take a look at where i am coming from. Put your self in my shoes, what would you all think if you were in my spot?

Yes, just a little joke :) C'mon it's all over now...all that should be said has been...can't we all laugh and poke some fun at the situation to lighten the mood? If you feel we need to keep the feud going I can do that too if you wish.
