I am trying to practice. On Mission Three ostensibly a plane is firing at me and shooting me down. I cannot see the plane. All I see is on orange triangle appearing at different places along the screen perimeter. Although I have been taking what I deem to be evasive action and firing my gun, I get hit from nowhere. Any suggestions? I would like to progress, but unless I can have more control over my fate, this game may be simply to frusttating for me.

Ugh, I think mission 3 was the one I was stuck on for months hahahah. Is it the one with the snow? You have to take out 4 fighters, 2 tanks and blow up 8 hangars?

Because that mission blows. :P

Yeah, im stuck at 3 now. It sucks. I got to five, but had to delete the app and reinstall. Z, is it possible to make the missions backed up to our accounts, so this doesnt happen?

You'll see how the orange triangles work in the multiplayer game. Don't get discouraged and balance some practice with the trial by fire of multiplayer mode. Good luck!

Locate those tanks and come in low with the building blocking the tanks line of fire then BAM! Get him. A few runs like this and you will be able to take them out and bomb the hangers

Yes, the orange triangle is just a pointer to show where the enemy plane is. Hope you pass the mission and progress even more bud. Good luck.

I got the game in early 2011 on my droid, tried practice, saw how much it lagged, and got rid of the app. Ik, thats what i insult noobs for. I got it again just DAYS after G's last visit to the forum, but on an iPad 2 my dad won. Much better. I did the first practice mission, then went straight to being killed by Mbizzi. ;) :P

Shooting planes and tanks in the practice mission 12 years 2 weeks ago #14526

This is what you do to shoot the practice planes. It works in all practice missions:

Don't turn to try to get behind the enemy planes, You can't outturn them with a Sopwith or a Fokker triplane.

What you should do if you fail to shoot the plane down on the first encounter is: not turn , but just continue flying straight past as if it were a car in the opposite lane of a highway. The enemy plane won't turn and go after you unless you turn first.

Then look at the symbols on the map. The white triangle is you and the little red dot is the enemy.

If the enemy sits on your tail, you can't shoot him. If you have let him pass you without turning, just wait, and you'll see the distance between you increase.

When it increases no more, turn while looking at the map, until the open end of the white triangle points right at the moving red dot which is the enemy. Then fly towards him and shoot.

After having downed the plane, get close to the airport by flying low, following the shore of the lake, so that the tanks can't see you.

The tanks are very accurate and will shoot you down at a long distance, but their turrets turn slowly and they need time to aim, so if you avoid flying in straight lines or straight towards them they will have a hard time hitting you.

Bombing the hangars in the practice missions is almost useless as practice for "real" bombing, because your plane acts very differently when you're approaching, turning, diving, and dropping bombs from what it does in the multiplayer game.

In the blizzard mission (mission 5, "dogfight") the flickering motion of the snowflakes on the screen makes it difficult to see the enemy planes. In the beginning the snow is just beautiful, but soon it becomes vexing and in the end it's outright horrible. I'm sure it could trigger an epileptic fit in a susceptible person.

If it weren't for the snowflakes, mission 5 would have been good practice because the planes act almost like they do in close combat in the multiplayer game. You can still fool them into giving you aiming distance by flying straight past them, but if you use the Fokker triplane it's in fact also possible to shoot them down in a turning game.

I have rerun the practice missions several times after having reinstalled the game. It's no real problem, you work MUCH quicker through them the second time.

These missions are useful in other ways than for practice when you can't go multiplayer because the connection is bad, because new additions to the scenery appears there too, so you can investigate and try out things without being shot if you park or taxy around a bit to take a closer look.

That's the one where two planes come to bomb your hangars, and you shoot them and go and bomb theirs?

I thought the one with the transport plane was the most difficult, because you had to keep an eye on it all the time or you'd lose it, - much more easily so than with a zeppelin that flies slowly in a straight line! :)

Level three is where you go too their airport, and one of their planes tries to stop you ;) Also, two tanks try to stop you :P

Ok. I remember now. Level three is the one with the two stationary expert marksmen tanks and the one enemy plane.

It's the one I gave the solution to in my previous LONG message.

The fun thing is how easy it is to outwit the simple-minded enemy pilot. He doesn't understand he needs to turn to get behind you unless you make a sharp turn yourself first.

On the other hand, although he crashes with the ground surprisingly often when left alone. I found it was almost impossible to trick him into doing so by circling low, the way you can with real life Dogfight pilots.

And you had no problem guiding the transport plane safely across the map - in level six, I think it was?

Looking at the pictures now. I'll drop them in "Dogfight News" if I manage to make something sensible out of it.

Since you had no problem with level six, the one where you escort a transport plane, perhaps you can tell us how you did it? Any tips or tricks?

My main problem is that I usually lose the transport plane somewhere in the clouds while I'm busy shooting at the enemy fighters.

Ok.....the trick to beating level six is to stick right with the plane. Try not to leave its side, ok? :) Also, you need to take out the enemy planes quickly. They don't go for you right away.....so when they're trying to shoot the transport plane, shoot them.

Try not to let those enemy fighters get on your tail. One time, one came up right behind me....he wasnt even shooting at me. He was just cruising behind me, and I couldn't beat the level on that particular try because of that red baron ;) But, in the end, I triumphed over that level :P

I hope you guys found this advice useful. Thanks, Green Freedom

They shoot you down from an incredible distance, to the great surprise of beginners, who don't understand what has hit them.

The good thing is they can't move. :-)

If you don't go right at them you can get as close as you want to them on the ground without being shot. You can literally run circles around them. You know what I mean if you saw the first screenshots I posted in the thread "Pushing Panther tanks around".

The snowy mission, number 5, is good practice.

You can in fact even conjure up extra planes if you take your time at the home airport. If you shoot down both at once that will be all, but if you're less quick about it, a third plane will appear.

It would be perfect if it weren't for the snowy weather. It looks fine in the beginning, but the whirling of the snowflakes eventually gets on your nerves!

To dive bomb the hangars, which works perfectly in the on-line game, is well nigh impossible in the practice missions. You need to drop the bomb and pull up at a much higher altitude if you're not to crash with the ground.

Low level bombing works fine though and offers quite realistic practice: If you drop the bombs right on top of the hangars you will usually take out just two at a time, but if you let it fall just alongside the row of hangars, you may manage to blow up three with one bomb.

Funny thing is couldn't log on to multiplayer when I first tried, so I thought you had to graduate the practice missions to be allowed into multi-player. I spent weeks cursing at the practice missions.

*the game could really use a practice mission to practice carrier landings!
** also be cool to see a video replay of practice flights to learn how throttle effects turns - I wonder if there is a way with the iPad to record its output?
