Dear Dogfight friends,

In these difficult times when the coronavirus is spreading all over the world and we are often placed in caranteine at home, I would like to contribute a little to still animate these moments a bit by people who are interested in the theory of flying at to bring.
I think that especially among our younger Dogfight players there will be interest in how things are in real aviation, how an airplane can stay in the air.
I am not going to give full flight training here and will limit myself to an informative theory.
If you are going to follow a real training, you have to take 7 exams,

- aviation regulations and operational procedures
- human performance and limitations
- meteorology
- communication
- principles of flying
- general knowledge of aircraft and instruments
-flight planning, monitoring and navigation

In addition to the theory, you also have to make a lot of flying hours with a practical exam, take a test to see that your English is good enough and a radiotelephony exam.

I hope I can please people here and I urge you not to use this item to give comments as this would make things cluttered. If you can't resist commenting I ask to start your own item. Let the people who are interested enjoy.

THE FIRST LESSON ARRIVES FAST !!!

Are we ready?
OK. Let's start at the beginning and that's before the plane starts flying.

PRE-FLIGHT CHECKS
Before we fly we determine whether the aircraft is airworthy. We do this with a WALK AROUND. You walk around the plane in a fixed pattern and you pay attention to:

- are the vehicle documents, certificate of registration and airworthiness, flight card, insurance documents and maintenance report all present and up to date?
- how much fuel
- oil level
- any damage on the outside
- tires: sufficient profile, no damage
- we also check that there is nothing in the way for the aircraft to drive off safely.

Now we are ready to board and taxi.

TAXIEN

We now board the plane, fasten the straps, put on the headset, we adjust the instruments, do a radio check and close and lock the cockpit
We start the engine and let it warm up. After the oil pressure and the temperature are at the correct level, we can ask the air traffic control for taxiing.

When the engine is running the proppelor will boss air back.

As soon as you give a lot of gas, the device starts moving, the device as it were pushes away from the air behind it.

Forces are indicated by an arrow and a letter, in this case the T of THRUST. (tensile force) Fig 1.

Now we come to the miracle of flying because how can a heavy plane get off the ground?

FLY
How can we get off the ground? Well it is actually because of the speed that the plane makes and the air around the wings then carries the plane. We call this carrying capacity the L-LIFT.

HOW DOES LIFT COME?

For this we look at a wing from the side.
In the example you can see the air flowing along the wing.
The airflow comes from the left and is split on the attack side of the wing. The air will travel over and under the wing at two different speeds. This is because the wing;

- makes an angle with the airflow
- the top of the wing is more rounded than the bottom. (wing profile)
(fig1)

What does this mean?
The air currents at the top of the wing flow closer together and the air is compressed. You can compare this with your garden hose. If you squeeze it partially, the pressure will increase to get the same amount of water out.
This is also the case for the wing, the air flows faster at the top than at the bottom. In the example we can follow the air particles that pass over the wing. Because the air particles at the top have to go faster to cover more distance, they are further apart.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

The air pressure at the top is smaller and the plane is literally pulled up.
There is approximately 2/3 negative pressure on top of the wing and 1/3 upward pressure on the bottom of the wing. This is for a standard wing and depends on the wing profile.
To put it simply, the top of the wing provides 2/3 of the carrying capacity and the bottom for 1/3.

If you let the propeller spin faster, you get more speed and the LIFT (L) becomes larger. If the LIFT is greater than the GRAVITY (G) the aircraft will fly. (fig.2)

Tomorrow we are going to talk about the controls.
I hope you have already learned something about aviation.
See you in the Dogfight sky;)
