Your prolonged silence had me worried friend, thought maybe you had to flee your home.
Hi Gannet,
Sorry I didn't respond earlier, I missed this thread until now. The fires of the last two weeks have been in Southern California, I'm in the Northern part of the state. California is huge, these recent fires had no effect on our area. We've been cleaning up and rebuilding up here. I've been replacing damaged solar power equipment and making reports for insurance.
Our friends whose family got caught in the Redwood fire ended up losing both of their kids. 14 and 17. So sad. The dad is going to make a fairly complete recovery. The mom is broken. She is still in the hospital with reconstructive surgeries. She doesn't remember one day to the next and has to be told about the loss of her kids every day. Life is precious but her misery is beyond anything I can imagine. The response to their recovery fund has been incredible. Money helps but it can't fix this.
The Cal Fire wild lands fire department has said that this is the new normal. We should expect the fire seasons to be longer and more intense as the subtle changes in the climate promote longer wet spells which grow vegetation followed by longer, hotter, dry spells.
