My 13 year old son came in from our workshop yesterday and asked me "Dad, where do you keep the gunpowder?"
A little surprised at the request I asked "What for?" (I do have a couple of 16oz jars of pyrodex.)
He says very matter of factly "Well, I don't remember the combination to my lock-box. Do you have any thermite?"
"Fresh out." I say with a laugh. "You can use my grinder, just be sure to wear gloves and safety glasses."
He shrugs and heads back out to the work shop. An hour or so later he comes in with the somewhat melted remains of a low quality metal safe. "I got it open! I found the magnesium fire starter block and shaved off some flakes and some small chunks. It worked pretty good!"
Cautiously impressed : "Oh, what was locked inside?" I ask, trying to ignore his Mother's scolding of me.
"Nothing... I just wanted to see if I could get it open."
He cracked his first safe at 13!!! I hope this isn't the beginning of a new career.
